    Member Appreciation Week: Day 1

Here is your friendly reminder to get into your garage or storage for that extra gear you’ve been wanting to get out of your inventory!

Join us for an Earth Day celebration at the gym! Matty Tucker (from Marshall House Project) will be treating us to some guitar & vocals and Happy Cat Pizza will be there with their delicious pizza.

Check out everything we have planned for the day:

Gear Exchange: Selling and buying used gear is good for the planet! We are excited to offer our first community-led gear exchange at Session on Earth Day. Bring your lightly used gear and connect with others in the Session Community! Set your own prices and hang out while others check out what you have! You have full control over pricing and payment method, whether it’s cash, Venmo, or another method. Please note that Session will not sell the gear for you while you’re climbing. If you end up not having any interested bidders, you will have the option for Session to donate your gear to a great cause-the budding climbing community in Jamaica!

Rental Gear Shoe Sale: Session will be selling some of our used rental shoes at great prices! This is a great opportunity to have a couple of extra pairs of shoes for your friends when you take them outdoors. This is also a great option for anyone at the beginning of their climbing journey!
Farm Fresh to You: Learn about this online farmers market that runs a sustainable farm-to-door system supporting their own organic farm as well as 25 other organic farms AND 275 California artisan grocery producers! They will be offering a no-commitment grocery delivery service that supports biodiversity, less food miles, and better conditions for farm workers.
Gear Donation: We will be hosting a gear donation to support Jamaica’s new climbing scene. Climbing is a relatively new sport in Jamaica, but thanks to the hard work of Juan Luis Toribio and his friends, there are now over 100 routes bolted around the island and a small but growing community of climbers. However, there is no access to climbing gear on the island and buying new gear from abroad is cost prohibitive for most climbers. The group keeps a supply of used gear, that is available to anyone to use at the crag, in order to keep climbing accessible to Jamaicans. Let’s help them add to their gear supply!
  • Instructor Spotlights!

Meet Kai and Abel! Two of our Climbing Instructors who have some really exciting things to share with the Session Community!

    KAI S.

Originally from San Rafael, he discovered his passion for climbing thanks to his colleagues at a summer camp near Mt. Hood, Oregon back in 2010. Since then, he has immersed himself in the climbing world, starting with guiding at Smith Rock State Park and continues to climb passionately today.

In recent years, he has developed an extensive curriculum focused on teaching route reading to climbers of all levels—a course he’s thrilled to offer here! Route reading is the art of analyzing a climb, understanding the required body positions and movements for efficient climbing, even before touching the holds. This multi-week course goes beyond the classroom, featuring self-directed exercises, valuable take-home resources, and engaging reading and viewing assignments after each session. While ideal for beginners and intermediates, there’s valuable insight for climbers at every level!

Check out Kai’s Route Reading Class on our Climbing Instruction page!

    ABEL

Originally from Havana, Cuba, Abel found his passion for climbing after his time at Humboldt State University, where he studied Art and Philosophy before graduating in 2011. Since then, he’s been traveling and climbing as much as money and time would allow! He’s been all across the globe, from Thailand, Cambodia, Nepal, Spain, Canada and all throughout the US, just to name a few.

With 18 years of climbing experience under his belt, Abel joined Session almost two years ago, teaching Lead climbing, Top rope, as well as route setting, and outdoor guiding! As a certified American Mountain Guide single pitch instructor, he developed Session’s first Gym to Crag class, merging his love for climbing and the outdoors with his dedication to sharing knowledge and creating a vibrant climbing community in Sonoma County. This class is a great opportunity to learn the essential information needed to set up outside!
